Dicks, 2005

by Thomas Bonin

Issue 1 was a collection of story fragments about the agents Tom and Bill. Issue 2 started a longer story called Freak Show. Issue 2.5 was a 24 Hour comic called Murder in the High Country. From issue 3 it joined Local Act Comics.

Dicks started out in 2000 as a way for me to draw comics. I'd done a couple of collaborations but creatively, I didn't see eye to eye with the writers I was working with.

Inspired by the worlds created by both Tom Waits and William Burroughs (hence the characters names Tom and Bill) I wanted to create a comic that was limited only by my imagination (similar to Neil Gaimen's vision for The Sandman). The first issues were vignettes but since joining Local Act Comics, I am focusing on complete stories while still keeping the unexpected element that I started with.

If the mixture of mythology, entomology and Philip Marlowe get you going then this is a comic for you.
